Suzumiya Haruhi no Tsuisou - 200: What's Avant-Garde?
... So, it's been about a week since my last update. Whoops, my bad. A number of factors played into this including my real job, One Piece: Romance Dawn on the 3DS, wishy-washyness over which (completely inconsequential) event to send Kyon to, general laziness and a recent addiction to Blue Excorcist, which is a totally rad series. (I also tried to get into Toriko recently, since it keeps having crossovers with One Piece and Dragon Ball both of which I absolutely adore, but started to find it painful to force myself to watch more episodes. I wanted to like it! I really did! But it just didn't work for me...)
And wow, this opening to the post is getting longer than the actual post. It's woefully short, forgive me! I also didn't record audio since there's no voiced dialogue. You get an animated gif though! Hopefully I'll have a more substantial update soon. ... And end rambling.
According to the pamphlet, the Dance Club was having an “avant-garde dancing” display...
On the stage, there were a number of people pained completely white wriggling about like bugs. This is supposedly a Dance Club event, but can you really call this dancing?
In our shock, myself and the people around me just stood there frozen with our mouths open... But I digress.
There was an old man in the front row with an impressive moustache who shouted out “Let’s avant-garde!” in excitement. Let’s not, shall we.
While our jaws were still hanging, the performance came to an end. I see, so this is avant-garde. It’s got a similar feel to the fine arts.

• The chap who says "Let's avant-garde!" says that exact English phrase in katakana. All other instances of the word "avant-garde" in this scene are translated from the Japanese word "前衛" (zenei).
