And here is a surprise update! It's me, as always, but using a different account name because this is entirely unrelated to Haruhi. Which means it probably doesn't belong on a blog for Haruhi video games. But whatever, my blog, my rules.
Anyone who watched last season's hit anime Shirobako was probably left feeling empty and sad when they realized there were no more episodes left. And if you haven't watched it, just go watch it on Crunchyroll right now.
For the uninitiated, much like Bakuman being a manga about making manga, Shirobako is an anime about making anime. Five girls who went to high school together are all breaking into the animation industry and experiencing the various issues of producing an animated series from tight deadlines, struggling to make enough money to put food on the table, voice auditions and various other things.
As for why I'm talking about this series, the reason is simple. There's a prequel manga, Shirobako: Kaminoyama High School Animation Club, which has no official translation available. And also no scanlations available as far as I'm aware. Until now at least!
Here I have for you, the first chapter of the Shirobako prequel manga.
As my first real scanlation release where I've done all the cleaning and typesetting myself, feel free to offer advice if you feel it's needed. Also, I kept the character names in eastern order (Eg. Miyamori Aoi instead of Aoi Miyamori) simply because that's how Crunchyroll went with their subs.
And of course, as someone who respects the English anime and manga industry (Viz Media's Weekly Shonen Jump is the best thing since dual audio DVDs), I do not intend to step on any toes here. If the manga does get officially licensed for English release, I will comply with taking this down.
(And if you are a potential licensor, I am also open to being hired to translate it professionally. Seriously, translation is a helluva lot better than my current job.)
