Nico Nico nii! Anata no heart ni love Nico! I have just gotten back from the Love Live movie! It was lots of fun, super adorable and possibly involved time travel. I was expecting the characters to spend more time in the US, similar to how the K-On! movie spent the whole time in the UK, overall a fun film and I need an animated gif of the shot where the third years all put on sunglasses at the same time in my life.

I would just like to say that the revisited version of this scene has one of my favourite lines of inner monologue to ever come out of Kyon's head.

And continuing my trend of being too lazy to re-upload old pictures, you'll find a mix of Tinypic and Imgur if you look at the URLs for the images in this post. In other news, I went and saw Matilda: The Musical last night and it was absolutely brilliant. Matilda has long since been a favourite of mine though, I love most of Roald Dahl's books and I totally had a crush on Mara Wilson when I was a kid. (... She's still pretty attractive even now actually.)

Other than that, I've been playing the fan translation of Ace Attorney Investigations 2. I played a bit of it a while back, but never finished it, so I'm planning to make it through the whole game this time. It's a downright brilliant localisation. ... I wonder if anyone is willing to do the same thing with any of the Haruhi games? (I know there was a Yakusoku translation project a while back, whatever happened to the folks doing that?) Any rom hackers up to such a task are free to contact me! While I love to provide people the means of experiencing Tsuisou (And to a lesser extent, Chokuretsu?) through reading this blog, I feel it's a much deeper experience when you're able to get behind the controls of the game yourself.

In the last "revisited" scene, I went out of my way to reupload the images to Imgur instead of Tinypic. ... This time, I've just got the Tinypic images because changing the URLs takes extra time and I'm lazy. Actual all new content will continue to have images on Imgur instead though. I don't have a whole lot else to say about this update. Still got a huge backlog of pre-translated stuff I'm sitting on. (Audio and screencaps are pending for a chunk of that stuff though, because those are the least fun parts of this project.) It's pretty late right now as I'm writing this, so I'm going to go to sleep now.

So, I'm back from Attack on Titan part 1! It was actually pretty good. Obviously, all the formerly European characters were made Japanese, along with some changes to the mythology and history of the story. But despite the numerous changes, it was an overall solid adaptation with a lot of the characters being instantly recognisable. Most notably, Hange and Sasha were most like their animated counterparts. The titans themselves were grotesque as ever and the perpetrators of many gruesome deaths, leaving me very satisfied with how they looked. Movement on the Omni-Directional Mobility Gear wasn't as dynamic as the animated version, but overall solid. Perhaps my biggest beef with the film is that the actors portraying Eren and Armin look very similar and that there were a few scenes here and there where I had trouble telling them apart. Other than that, both I and my dad (who hasn't seen the Attack on Titan anime, but also attended the film) really enjoyed it. Now then, bring on part 2, End of the World!

So, tonight I'll be going to see the live action adaptation of Kyougeki no Shinjin, I mean, uh... Shingeki no Kyojin, also known as Attack on Titan. I'm looking forward to seeing how the film has turned out and will probably post another update tonight alongside my impressions of the film. (Because reviews of Attack on Titan are obviously the reason you visit a Haruhi Suzumiya blog, right?)

This update is largely a retread of the first time around, but with a slight change to Kyon's inner monologue. You could make a game out of finding the difference in Kyon's monologues in revisited scenes. (A game within a game? Gameception...?)

So, as of this post, I'm switching my image hosting from TinyPic to Imgur. Old posts are set to remain with images from TinyPic for the time being at least, mostly because going back to edit all the posts would be a pain in the ass, although I may change the links in the future. (Come to think of it, I still need to update all my old Phase 1 images with that annoying "FPS" in the corner at some point in the future too...)

I was meaning to put up a post the other day, but I forgot. Sadly, nothing new in this scene. (It's the same as last time, minus some inner monologue.)

This week on The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan, Yuki had a chance encounter with Masako Nozawa, the voice of Son Goku in Dragon Ball. ... Okay, that's not true at all. The episode hasn't even aired yet and the screencap is from the new series Sore Ga Seiyuu. Expect another update in the morning. Futaba sure looks a helluva lot like Yuki does though.

Reaching the end of our 48 hour period means going back to the start again, which means waking up, going to school and listening to Asakura sulk about how our exhibit sucks again.

We're revisiting a scene from... close to a year ago. (Which is a clear reminder of how I did no work whatsoever on this for the first few months of this year.) As such, there's little new in this update other than a few lines of inner monologue from Kyon.

So, this week's episode of Yuki-chan covered the last few pages of chapter 10 and the entirety of chapters 11 and 12. The very opening bit was filler up until Mikuru and Tsuruya arrive (in the manga, Mikuru was already there due to being kidnapped by Haruhi as seen in last episode and Tsuruya arrived to take her back), this episode also features the debut of Taniguchi and Kunikida, which is also complete filler as neither of them appear in the manga until chapter 43. (Or well, Taniguchi may have had a one panel cameo earlier than that...? I'm not finding it by flipping through my volumes and I can't be bothered to do a proper search though.)

Covering barely over 2 chapters, this episode covers the least manga material thus far. And with this week's commentary done, onto the update!

... So, my update is coming pretty late this week due to various circumstances. (I stayed up late playing Cho Dengeki Stryker, woke up a bit later than the past 2 weeks, got dragged out for exercise immediately upon awakening and got roped into watching a few episodes of Rurouni Kenshin before I had a chance to watch this week's episode.) And it's a fairly tiny insignificant one too. (It just happened to be the next one I had stockpiled, but...)

I've only just finished watching this week's Yuki-chan, which covered chapters 8, 9 and most of 10. A bit of anime-only filler was added this week. Over 3 minutes worth between when Kyon and Nagato part ways with Haruhi at the park and when she suddenly turns up at North High when school starts up again, as well as all the non-Mikuru items Haruhi brought to the clubroom (all of which were obvious references to the original series) and everything from the moment Tsuruya arrives in the clubroom. (In the manga she arrives without Kyon and Koizumi and things unfold differently.)

As for things cut out of the manga, other than the final few pages of chapter 10 (which may make it into next episode based on Nagato's reaction face in the preview?), perhaps the most notable omission would be an imagine spot showing Yuki with a ponytail. Also worth noting is that Haruhi's battle with Tsuruya also took some elements from Tsuruya's appearance in chapter 1, which as previously mentioned had been cut from episode 1.

So, I've just finished watching this week's episode of Yuki-chan and it managed to cover chapters 5, 7 and 6 in (mostly) that order. Taking a quick flick through the manga, very little was removed from this episode as opposed to last week's one. In fact, there was quite a bit added instead (mostly to the Christmas Party and its preparation). The most notable omission is probably the explanation of why the Literature Club wasn't disbanded when it only has 3 of the 5 required members (Kyon signed Taniguchi and Kunikida up too, so they're technically members on paper if not in practice). Other things of note in this episode include the return of the "Oi oi" theme from the main series when Haruhi first turns up, albeit with a new mix. Also the appearance of Haruhi's message to Santa has quite a bit of resemblance to another message she once wrote... (In the manga, we never get a clear look at her message, but you can see what looks like "Sa" written in English at the start of the sheet Nagato is holding while Haruhi draws.)

As for the actual meat of this update, I will admit I was lazy and didn't bother to re-record new audio despite some of Kyon's grunts being changed/removed towards the end of the scene.

So, this update is a revisit of a previous scene, Kyon's inner monologue has changed, though all the spoken dialogue is the same. As for episode 1 of Yuki-chan... Funimation doesn't appear to have put up their subs as far as I'm aware? (And by extension, neither has AnimeLab, the Australian streaming service who will be simulcasting the show.) Of course, being the translator extraordinaire I am, I am not bound by subtitles, meaning I... found another way to watch it. Without any subs. (I apologise to all legal copyright holders. I've sunk a lot of money into this franchise though and will continue to once this show has a home release!)

Overall, it was a fairly straight adaptation of the first 4 chapters of the manga. There were a few little changes though, like removing Tsuruya-san and Mikuru's first appearance in chapter 1, by extension also removing the appearance of Mori-san, who is depicted as a PE teacher at North High. Little of any value is lost here as Tsuruya-san's antics here are more or less the same thing she does when she turns up at the start of chapter 3, also covered by this episode, making it somewhat redundant. (Unless you're a massive Mori-san fan, in which case... Bad luck.)

The other big change from the manga is from chapter 4, where after becoming embarrassed by Kyon being too close to her while trying to plan for the Christmas party, Yuki writes about how close their faces were, before freaking out and tearing out the page, after which she draws a doodle of them about to kiss, before tearing the page out again, the anime removes the doodle and page tearing altogether, with her merely scribbling over the writing and turning the page instead. (Which is sad, as I really liked that gag.)

Notable additions to the episode include the opening scene adding some establishing shots of the familiar scenes of Nishinomiya and North High (on that note, the manga's actual opening scene of Nagato's flashback to first meeting Kyon at the library is moved to the very end of the episode), and Asakura humming Hare Hare Yukai as she cooks.

It seems we'll have to wait until next week to see the opening theme, the ending theme was cute, but not as good as previous Haruhi end themes like Hare Hare Yukai, Tomare or Yasashii Boukyaku in my opinion.

Overall a good episode, fairly solid adaptation for the most part and wonderful to hear new material from Sugita, Chihara, Kuwatani, Gotou and Matsuoka. I'm looking forward to hearing Hirano and Ono again soon too. (Haruhi has her first speaking role in chapter 7, so probably next episode? Koizumi doesn't have his until chapter 9, so we may be waiting until episode 3 for that.)

I wonder if Funimation will bring the original cast back for the eventual dub or just do it in house in Texas? (I'd be fine losing Wendee Lee's Haruhi, but I really like the rest of the dub cast.)

Mere hours remain until the debut of the Nagato Yuki-chan no Shoushitsu anime. I wasn't planning on updating until after I'd seen episode 1, but I figured it possible that people who may see the episode before I do would come here expecting the update only for it to come later in the day so... Here it is.

As it turns out, Bandai Namco haven't hired me for an official release as I claimed in my April Fool's update (And if Bandai Namco is reading, I'm totally open to being hired by you.), a basic timeline of events to explain my absence over the past few months would be thus: November, I'm dumped by my fiancée, December, my father is diagnosed with a terminal cancer, January, holding the household together with just me and mum while my dad is in hospital and my sister is overseas (also the month my laptop craps out and is replaced), February, a big Naruto marathon.

So yeah, things kind of sucked. And as such, by the time I got back to working on things in mid-March, I figured I'd might as well hold off any actual updates until April so I could spring my prank and be back in time for Yuki-chan. I've got a few stockpiled at the moment, so maybe I'll do a second update later today including my thoughts on the new anime as my foreword?

For any new readers of the blog who may have been attracted by the April Fool's prank (I know that posting it on Reddit got a reaction from some people), I suggest visiting the project's index page, which will help you start from the beginning to get up to here.

Hey there! Long time no see! I apologise for the lack of updates the past month and a half, but I have several excuses valid reasons for my absence! Putting together an entry for the Manga Translation Battle, watching Rurouni Kenshin, playing Pokémon: Omega Ruby, my fiancee breaking up with me, playing Persona Q, doing the JLPT, getting a new puppy... Also picked up a few new Japanese VNs for my Vita, so I may be focusing on those soon too. (Plus the fact that this is just a large scene with a ridiculous amount of screencaps I had to do didn't help with getting this out either.)
